Minnewanka Cabin. June 6/43. [1943]
A few bull elk wintered in here.
Aspen chawing not more than 3 years
old but [Ernst] Stenton says they have
been here longer than that +
only a total of 6 or 8 head.
Deer winter in moderate
numbers. The area was worked
by lions last winter. Some
lions as at Carrot Cr. [Creek] Stenton
followed tracks all the way.
Range is in excellent shape + would
support perhaps double or at
least 50% more head than now
on it.
Game count today:-
2 sheep.
7 deer.
Banff. Alta. [Alberta] June 7, 1943.
Today travelled from Minnewanka
Cabin to Banff. Weather fine with
light west wind. Got off to a late
start because the horses left us
+ went back to the head of the lake.
However saddled up at 11:30 + reached
Bankhead at about 3 o'clock - distance
about 13 miles.
For about 2/3 of the distance the
country is semiopen woodland
