- Aug [August] 21-22. [1939] We spent at Murder Cove McCauley I. [Island]
One morning when setting off to pick up our trap
a Peale's Falcon flew over our heads I
whistled shrilly to Mr [Thomas T.] McCabe to attract his
attention and to my surprise the falcon flew
back over my head, then lit in a tree about
200 yds [yards] away. I returned to the "Sea Bird" + picked
up my shotgun + started to run towards
the falcon which was in full view of me.
It flew + I repeated the same whistle
as before then again the falcon wheeled +
flew over my head + I shot him. I visited
a small lake on the island + collected a
Goose + a squirrel there.
Aug [August] 23 [1939] We anchored + trapped one night
in Ogden Channel on Porcher Isl. [Island] Shot a squirrel
Aug [August] 24-5. Trapped in Freeman pass on the
Porcher I [Island] side. Here I saw a doe + a fawn +
collected the doe. Numbers of Harlequins in
the flightless plumage were observed.
Aug [August] 26. [1939] Spent in Captain cove on Pitt I. [Island]
here I wounded + lost a Screech Owl. Several
bats were seen on the [illegible word] moved to Principe Channel
Aug [August] 27. [1939] Was spent travelling from Principe
Channel on Banks to Kent Inlet on Princess
Royal I. [Island] We saw several whales + a
Jaeger on the voyage.
Aug [August] 28. [1939] Hunted Porpoise in Laredo Channel
+ succeeded in catching one.
Aug [August] 29. [1939] Hunted Porpoise in the morning traveled
to Bella Bella in the afternoon + night
