Golden Eagle
Oct [October] 24 [1944] An immature Golden
Eagle, observed attacking chicken
in backyard of JH Parham,
Mount Douglas Cross Rd [road], was caught
in the bare hands by Mrs Parham
who grabbed it from behind + held
the wings immobilized. The bird
was placed in a hen house + since
it was likely to escape it was
again caught + placed in another
enclosure. It was subsequently
killed + brought to Tom the
Taxidermist (Fort St.) in order to
have the feet mounted.
I saw the bird there + verified
the identification. - (Oct [October] 26 [1944])
Wing spread about 6 ft. [feet]
Juvenile plumage.
Throat torn.
Mrs Parham weighs but 120 lbs [pounds] but
was unscratched. She is experienced
in handling turkeys in like [illegible word written over] manner.
Dec [December] 29th [1944] - Golden eagle found winged[?] at
Sooke (opp. [opposite] Scott + Pedau[?] farm) by G.W. Luke
of 901 Victoria. Brought to Museum alive.
