Transcript |
- almost the entire distance through
heavy forest of Pine, Spruce + some
balsam. The creek bottoms support
scattered willow clumps.
The understory is largely of moss
with Pyrola, Linnea, Arctostaphylos,
+ a very little grass. The area
does not produce summer range
deemed good for any game animal.
Sign indicates a small wintering
moose population. They had
tipped 50% of the balsams +
had eaten extensively of jack pine +
of course used the willows
heavily. The browse line down
to 3-3 1/2 ' [feet] indicates the snow
depth.
Saw no game in the 12 miles.
Healy Creek. June 17/43 [1943]
Left Banff by car at 1:30 + came
down to the cabin here - clearing
after a very wet morning.
Distance to cabin 6 miles. Then
drove up Healy Creek almost to
Sunshine - distance 7 miles.
Up Healy creek the S [South] slope of
Mt [Mount] Bourgeau presents some
excellent game range. The lower
parts bear excellent young Aspen
groves with scattered willow
clumps. Higher up are many escarpments
