- Microtus richardsoni arvicoloides [Richardson vole]
Sproat Mtn [mountain] B.C. [British Columbia] Sept. [September] 11/37 [1937]. Set out several traps
along stream + in marshy places + this
a.m. [morning] took a large [male symbol], #1669 in a 1 1/2 steel
trap set in mud at edge of road, above
cabin. An old nest was close by. Also
saw signs of these animals along stream
on either side of shores, but especially
along the banks of the rocky stream course
in the south-west. While there are
apparently a considerable number
of these animals present in this
region, they live under somewhat
different conditions than those on
Red Mtn [mountain] (Mt. [mount] Overlord) + Whistler. On
Sproat Mtn. [mountain] they are along the stream
courses in dense Alder growth +
do not have the extensive burrows
+ runways found in the other places
or up on Mt. [mount] Revelstoke. Ed Wood[?]
mentioned having seen one of these
mice in his garden on the trail
above Alta Lake Station.
