- Hale had trouble getting even
light over the entire field
in his microscope + finally
solved it with a small pad
of opal or sanded perspex
on the stage.
Aug [August] 4. [1958] Aberdeen
Came up by the early train
leaving Edinburgh at 7:30. No dinner
on it to our chagrin. Were met
by [V.C.] Wynne Edwards. It was
good to see him again.
He is busy on a book on
animal dispersal - largely a
treatment of numbers + control.
A growth study using ICI
methods is in its third year
with L [pounds] 3000 a year support
Another man is on Snow hare.
He also has a nice field station
unit started with 1 permanent
staff man + another to be appointed.
This is to be for general + animal
ecology.

Spent a fascinating day on the
moors of Deeside. Drove up as
far as Balmoral + about
10 miles heyard[?]. Saw very little
