The young groundhog prefers
dandelions to either wheat (green), oats
or grass. He sleeps in a
vertical position.
Between Barnhardt Vale + Merrit.
Took 4 [female symbol] + 3 [male symbol] groundhogs
in a rocky bluff in pine
forest. All the females had
been nursing but were
dry at the time. When I got
near them they dashed for
the cliff, but once on its
ledges they showed more
curiosity than fear. I watched
one male groundhog feeding
on bunch grass. He ran
about, or walked slowly, always
on all fours, eating now here
now there, but never sitting
up to eat like a chipmunk or
a squirrel.

Took 20 Columbian groundsquirrels,
3 alive. They nearly all had
healed warble lesions. The burrows
