sides of body + head; more concentrated
on upper jaw + on legs; few on tail
Top of head + back almost uniform choc. [chocolate] brown
Underparts slate grey, yellowish on
throat. Skin of belly thin + partly transparent
#1 has more bronzy yellow on head + spots
are finer + more numerous.
#3 spots fine + numerous on head (+ back);
same as #2 elsewhere
The specimens are sluggish, making no
attempt to escape
Ambystoma macrodactylum [underlined] [Long-toed salamander] - One individual
was found under a small log (5" [inch] diam [diameter]" [inch])
under which A. gracile [Ambystoma gracile - Northwestern salamander] specimen was also
found. (Aug [August] 24/43 [1943])
Size: 80 mm. [millimeters] (tail appears mutilated
Colour: Dark chocolate with bright
greenish-yellow dorsal marking in form
of continuous strip from back of head to
tail tip; irregular outline to stripe. Small
irregular spots of same colour on head + limbs
Sides + undersurface same dark chocolate
(almost black) with many small whitish
irregular speckles.
