- Cowichan Lake. Feb. [February] 7/40 [1940].
head he gambolled two or
three jumps flourishing his
head as before. The left antler
was seen to come off + the
deer trotted on with his
head inclined to the right.
Activities At 8:30 several deer had evidently
finished feeding though there
had been no moon. One doe
stood absolutely motionless for
16 minutes on a promintory [promontory]
in the sunlight looking down
into the basin with ears
flopping one way + the other.
At the same time 6 deer were
seen proceeding slowly along
a trail across the rock bluffs
to the bedding ground. As they
went they stopped frequently
to look out below them.
At 9:30 Two deer - a doe + fawn
were feeding in S. [south] gulch. The
doe noticeably grayer + smoother
than the fawn which was
in contrast brown or red
brown with a dark shoulder
area
Another doe bedded down
