Were all that remained. As we came too close she
dragged the prey 10-20 yds [yards] away from us with
several pauses to pant. In general she dragged by
seizing the horns or thr [word crossed out] neck + straddling the animal
Sometimes she pulled it alongside her. It was
an amazing sight. The usual jackals sat + watched but
no hyenas appeared or vultures.

the embassy. It was a dull party as most such

Jones + wife - he is here with Spartan Air Services
+ several other former U.B.C. [University of British Columbia] people.
July 1/67 [1967] 12000' [feet] on Mt [Mount] Kenya
Left Nairobi about 09:30 + drive here with one
stop at the ranch of Mr + Mrs Richard Carles, Nynuki [Nanyuki] [underlined]
Kenya. They gave us lunch + then sent us on our way. It was
a truly beautiful location with a magnificent view over
the rolling hills toward the Abodares [Aberdares] in one direction +
Mt [Mount] Kenya in the other. A beautiful garden with roses +
Fuschias, no mosquitos or TseTse. They grow wheat,
barley sheep + cattle - most of the latter seemed to be
Galloways. We then started up the mountain passing
