Elk sign [word crossed out] moose + caribou sign abundant. Great quantities of winter microtine work. Emigrants Mt [Mountain] June 23, 1924 [?1946]. Bright day until 8 PM. then becoming stormy. Left camp at 9 o'clock + rode through Elysium Pass + across Monarch meadows + up to the summit of Barrett Pass. When travelling around the shoulder between Elysium Pass + Monarch Meadows it is advisable to keep high. The lower timber is very rough. Monarch Meadows offer a beautiful place for a collecting camp - A large area of both wet _ dry alplands, parkland, rock slides + a belt of willows along the creek Saw 16 [male symbol] elk + 12 caribou at the head of Monarch Creek. Microtine sign everywhere + caught 2 Synaptomys by hand.
