Stomach contents
85% grass
10% bearberry
5% Mountain juniper.
Food. Watched a group of ten sheep of all
ages + sexes.
grass 215 [underlined] minutes. Sheep were avidly
nibbling some clumps already used
100%. These were on a particularly warm
site + showed some new growth. To
get at this they pawed the earth from
around the roots to make the clump
stand higher above the ground.
The [They] went for Purple Reed grass +
wheat grass most avidly but also
at Brome where available.
Bearberry 65 [underlined] minutes. Sought particularly
the deeper parts of the plant with more
chlorophyll content.
Consistently passe dup Juniperus communis [underlined]
Douglas fir [underlined] 10 seconds.
Measurements:- ad [adult] ram 72, 17, 6. horns 37 1/2
Glands:- Preorbital gland had apparently been
secreting during the rut as the hair
adjacent to each was soiled
