- Journal. Aug [August] 7/43 [1943]
more or less isolated pockets of high
grassland upon which a few sheep
might winter + others upon which
they possibly summer. I should judge
that an aggregate of 100 sheep might
find winter pasture. [Edward] Macdonald reports
that the small group on the [word crossed out] Mt [Mount]
Balcarres winters in a grassy basin
behind the mt [mountain].
Some elk + moose winter along the
Rocky as far as we came + [Edward] Macdonald
says a few deer winter along the
sunny slopes.
Jacques Creek shows sign of very
light winter moose population. Summers
a small number of moose, elk +
deer. Some beaver in lake + head of
river below lake. Eating spruce.
Hills n. [north] + s [south] of cabin with small
hilltop pastures upon which goat
winter 5 to 9 north + 5 south. Sheep
have been seen on north one.
2 goat there this evening.
Noteworthy birds:- Boh. [Bohemian] Waxwings on
Rocky 2 Solitary Sandpipers 1 on Rocky 1 at Lake.
1 Mallard hen. 2 days ago saw [female symbol] Blue
w. [winged] teal + 5 young on Cairn Pass.
Game seen 1 moose
2 goat
1 beaver.
