- Sheep.
Aug. [August] 23/42 [1942]. Shorts Creek.
Left Vernon at 9:30 + drove to the
upper Fintry ranch on Shorts Creek
where we arrived at about 11:AM.
On the way saw two coyotes in
upper meadow.
Predators:- Scotty Evans reports that in
January 1942 coyotes killed a ewe.
The carcase [carcass] was fed upon by
an eagle + some ravens as
well as the coyotes.
J. Chichester + Shuttleworth in
the winter of 41-42 [1941-1942] followed
two different cougars for a
total of 4 days. The first one
had made a fresh deer kill
+ they saw altogether 4 kills
of less than 3 weeks old - all
were deer. The other cat
killed nothing during two days
+ this despite the fact that
game was plentiful + it
was unaware of pursuit.
Major Allan [Cyril] Brooks reports
2 or 3 Golden Eagle Earies [Eyries] on the
big North Bluff when he was there
in 1906. He believes the eagles
are the main lamb predators
