  • 72 Pair of Bowls d: 15.8 cm, early Kangxi (1662-1722) These bowls, with slightly flared rims, are decorated with underglaze blue prunus sprays, and red flower hearts and white buds thickly enamelled, alternating with underglaze blue birds in flight. The inside bottom has an underglaze blue rock design and the base has an underglaze blue shop mark in a double circle. 73 Bowl d: 8.9 cm, Kangxi (1662-1722) The interior of this doucai bowl is decorated with a central medallion of a five-clawed green dragon amidst clouds. The exterior is decorated with the Eight Diagrams (Bagua) in medallions. The Eight Diagrams are various combinations of straight and broken lines from which Chinese mathematics is said to have derived, and they also denote the evolution of nature and its cyclic changes. Between these medallions are cranes alternating with cloud scrolls. There is a six-character mark of Chenghua in a double circle on the base.
