- i>ast, but not Ieast, we have Jack Keech, the beet soccer nleyer in the unit, end the possessor of a magnificent baritone voice.
Game across from Victoria, on our draft, also to France on the same draft, end was along with us when we joined this unit. Very bow legged, but a fine looking boy, A Londoner by birth, but far from being a cockney. Usually in the same squad with him up the line.
Have no net monicker for him. Just pi8in ’'Jack". That’s all. How are you satisfied?
Taking it all through, we have no complaint to mke on the score of the weather. Have had a few day’s rain but not enough to necessitate an enforced lay-off ofour ball team. The oast few days have been extremely warm, but if I’m not mistaken, rain is in the air this evening.
The kid and I just came off a week’s kitchen fatigue two days ago. And take it from me, theywere dirty, greasy, dixie-wall spring days, from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M, One consolation, a fellow always feeds good when he is on kitchen, but am afraid it is only a poor consolation, The past two days, I’ve been on gate guard, a soft job.
Two hours on and two off. Nothing to do, and six hours to do it in.
I mailed two small packages a few days ago which I hot>e will reach you safely. The one containing the pressed flowers I registered, for I know how you love them. Amsorry that the facilities for pressing them aren’t of the best, but there’s a mighty big
bunch of love sent along with them, and that I’m sure will counteract theother. Also mailed a water bottle and a few other odds and. ends to add to the collection. Was pleased to hear that the packages I mailed from Newville St. Vaast reached you saitely.
Well, I think I’ve just about reached the end of my tether. Haven’t done too badly at that, have I? I’m a bear cat when I get started all right.
As ever, love atrall,
Fred
