Predation:- Found old muskrat carcase [carcass]
eaten by fox + examined 3 other
Fox scats 1 100% muskrat
1 mouse + hornet[?]
1 mouse + muskrat
[Bert] Boxers [s crossed out] tells of watching a fox hunting
rats on the ice. A rat dived for food
+ the fox then ran as hard as it
could to the edge of the lake +
there squatted flat. The rat
soon emerged + was caught.
Feeding:- Watched rat diving for food
in about 6 ft [feet] of water, while
it was digging in the bottom a
continuous stream of bubbles came
up - Methane? Rats here eating sedge
rhizomes, Equisetum + the feathery pond weed.
Breeding [underlined]:- One [female symbol] taken had a slight
discharge of blood from the
vagina + a clot in the opening.
She had been caught by the
back ankle but I do not
think this was the cause of
this bleeding. Had she just
given birth?

Timidity: I have the impression already
that the [female symbol]'s have a longer recovery
time than the [male symbol]'s
