  • under a large rock. Was missing tail. Had evidently frozen in its sleep from position of body. Tracks then lead up and over some very rough country to a calf elk kill. Only paunch, legs, and cape of skin remained. Was not over 3 weeks old. Jan. [January] 6 [1946] Autopsied wolf - 1 1/2 yr [year] old [female symbol]. Wt. [weight] 37 lbs. [pounds], total length minus tail 45 1/2" [inches], hind foot 10 1/2" [inches], shoulder height 23" [inches]. 40-50% of skin surface infested with mange. Worst around hind quarters. 7 flat worms (1 foot long each) and 4 roundworms removed from middle small and upper large intestine. Stomach and intestines, particularly lower end, filled with blood. Nothing else in stomach, liver (large lobe) had small yellowish spots all through tissue. Death caused by hemmorage [hemorrhage]. Jan. [January] 7. Two wolves had been back to cow elk kill at Hillsdale. Found [different handwriting; possibly Jim Hatter]
