- Rangifer:-
Indianhead Cabin. July 11/43 [1943]
[James (Jim)] Simpson tells me that in May 1902
he followed the tracks of a cow + yearling calf
caribou about 2 miles below the Clearwater
gap - on the Siffleur. Several years
before the Indians had run into
a small group on Pipestone Pass +
killed all but two.
In the summer of 1940 a lone [male symbol]
caribou was found feeding along
with [James (Jim)] Simpsons horses on Thompson
Pass near Mt [mount] Castleguard.
Banff. July 22/43. [1943]
Supt. [Superintendent James] Woods [Wood] of Jasper reports seeing
a caribou cow at mile 100 on the
Jasper highway in early July of this
year. It was very close + there was
no doubt about identity.
Brazeau Basin July 28/43 [1943]
Saw a cow on Jonas Pass. Our wrangler
who was riding at the back of the string
reports seeing 2 bulls + at least 2 other
cows just before the lone one.
" [Brazeau Basin] July 29/43 [1943]
Tracks of animals of several different signs
on the river bars both above + below
camp. also on hillside east of here.
Saw a pair of shed antlers near where
we shot the big ram.
