The juv [juvenile] cow seen had antlers in white
about 2 inches in height big bull
had two basal tines developed
+ antlers up about to level of
posterior tine.

Saw 8 caribou [(3 ad [adult] [male symbol], 1 2 yr [year] [male symbol] (grays)), (2 ad [adults])
(cows 2?)]
Shot the largest bull, it had
a lame fore leg (broken + healed,
+ gave signs of pulmonary trouble.
Moult: Hair was loose all over back
+ came out in sheets leaving a dark
fuscous coat of new hair, paler on
neck, throat mane already well grown.
Measurements:- 86" [inches], 7" [inches], 25" [inches], 50" [inches], 8 1/4" [inches]
Maligne Lake. July 25 + 26/44 [1944]
Saw caribou tracks on the gravel
bar at the extreme head of the lake
+ found shed antlers in the
Timberline basin N [north] of the cabin.
Ed Macdonald tells me that
early last winter he saw about
27 head near here on both
sides of the lake. He also says
that there is a big caribou lick
about 8 miles up the Maligne Pass
trail.
