- Coldstream Lakes, V.I. [Vancouver Island], Dec. [December] 19, 1939.
Breeding. Saw no signs of the rut.
Testes of buck killed were
43 c.c. [cubic centimetres]
Living sperms were numerous
in the epididimys [epididymis].
Accidents:- We found a buck dead
for about 2-3 weeks.
It had been in the last
stages of emaciation + had
a compound fracture of
the tibia about 3 inches below
the knee. The leg was not
shattered as it would have been
had the injury been a gunshot
wound.
The break had been suffered
several months prior to death
as a large ring of bony
tissue had formed below the
side of the injury but had
not united with the proximal
part of the bone.
This buck had shed its
antlers shortly before death.
as the corona was but partly
healed over.
