Jasper to Entrance.
Browsing heavy below the Rocky but
nothing like that near Snaring.
Apparently very few elk range over
this area - Mostly moose + deer.
Saw: Sheep. 335

American Merganser 4, Mallard several,
Green winged teal 2, Crows 17 +/-, bluebirds 9.
Juncos many. Geese 12 prs [pairs], Robins 8 +/-.
Tree swallows 4. Magpies 2. Chipping Sp. [Sparrow] 1.

Worked ranges west of cabin for
about 3 miles.
On the open dry south facing hillsides
the ground is 50 to 70% bare of vegetation.
+ the degree of erosion is evident from the
1" elevation of sage + grass clumps.
There is much evidence of pawing out
of grass roots.
The dominant plant on the dry
slopes is the sage. It constitutes from
70 or 80% to 50% of the ground cover
with grass making up the bulk
of the remainder. Juniperus scopulorum [underlined]
grows locally in recumbent form.
