One on May 24 [all words crossed out] July 6/45 [1945]
Twice in June Wells had his dogs
attacked by wolves in this vicinity
on May 24.
Attack was by single wolf not one of the 3. [marginalia]
Three wolves kept circling and howling
+ finally one of them seized the black
+ white collie first by the throat +
then by the kidney region inflicting
deep punctures + leaving the
dog for dead when Frank ran
to the rescue. As Frank bent
over the dog the wolf rushed
in to within a few feet + then
retreated when he jumped up
shouting and waving his arms.
Wells shot at + wounded a
large black animal on another
occassion [occasion] + the collie rushed in
+ siezed [seized] the wolf by the jaw -
the wolf bit so hard that
it tore out an upper molar
from the right side of the dogs
mouth.
The wolf pup scats were
smaller to the same size as coyote
scats + many were smooth +
of a light color.
