Goldstream Lakes. Oct. [October] 14, 1938.
Area consists of 2 main lakes
the levels of which have been
artificially raised. Lakes are bordered
with a fringe of willows -
mostly Salix lasiandra [underlined] with
S. [Salix] scouleriana [underlined] becoming more
abundant + then dominant as
the lake shore is left + the
burns entered. Much of the
country is open first growth Douglas fir
forest with Gaultheria 1-3'
high as an undergrowth +
some hemlock, white pine
+ cedar intermingled. In the
moist + shaded spots, particularly
along the margins of the
many natural meadows Alnus [underlined]
rubra [underlined] is dominant, along the
creeks Rosa gymnocarpa [underlined] + Rubus [underlined]
spectabilis grow. The meadows
are composed of sedges of
which Carex sitchensis [underlined] is
dominant + Carex oederi [underlined] casual.
On the pebbly shore of the
3rd [third] lake C. [Carex] oederi [underlined] is abundant
+ further up the shore C. [Carex] sitchensis [underlined]
is in patches.
Burns growing up in fir,
hemlock, Jack pine + white pine
in open stands, Vaccinium parvifolium [underlined]
Marginalia: Spirea Douglasi +
gentian dominants
