- Referring to the gardens again
I saw thistle mums, small yellow
with very thin petals - lovely
The small forms are mostly
varieties of the edible chrysanthemums
At the ornithological Institute
I examined specimens of the
formosan race of P. [Phasianus] colchicus
It is not the pale bird we have
The female is about the colour of our
[illegible word crossed out] chinese ringneck but lacks the
spotting on the lower neck + upper
breast. It is smaller. The [male symbol] is
more sharply marked on the
hackles, slightly paler than colchicus [underlined]
+ smaller.

Arrived here at 8:30 this morning
at the same time as a KLM
flight from London + a Quantas
from down under the
result was complete chaos
that took an hour to sort
out. Finally we piled
into a small bus with no
leg room headed for town

saw some herds of waterbuffalo

red brown. Many had buffalo
birds on their backs.
