Cairn Cabin. July 15/44 [1944].
Overcast with light showers + intermittent
sunshine. Worked along east side of valley
to the mesa + back. This is a good
sheep slope of the grass, sedge + Hedysarum
type. Water is readily available. Numerous
sheep trails lead over the top + out of
the Park.
Game seen. 17 [female symbol] ad [adults] 2 yr [year] [female symbol] 1 yr [year] [male symbol], 1-2 yr [year] [male symbol] 1-4 yr [year]
male. 10 lambs = 32 sheep.
Southesk Lake (1 mi [mile] E [East]). July 16/44 [1944].
Fine day, strong west wind. Left cabin
on Cairn at 10:30 - camped here at 4 PM.
We came over the divide en route
instead of going all the way down to
the junction of the Cairn + Southesk.
The southesk valley is broadly bordered
with willow meadows + the majority
of the timber has been burned off
some 50+/- years ago. The west face
of Mt [Mount] Southesk is a shale incline
with practically no growth above
