Spray Lakes. June 12/43. [1943]
Saw a doe + yearling cross the Spray
just above 15 Mile Cabin.
Just one lot of pellets seen on trail
to this point but tracks in fair numbers
here.
Bryant Cr. [creek] Cabin, alt. [altitude] 6400' [feet] June 13/43 [1943]
Saw 3 deer in vicinity of the cabin.
and many tracks along the trail from
Kill [underlined] our last camp. Walter Childs on his
January patrol found a deer coyote killed
on the Spray river about half way through
the canyon. Later in the evening
4 does + a buck came down. This is
the only buck seen. There is one
yearling in the bunch.
Whiteman Cabin. June 25/43. [1943]
Saw 2 [female symbol] + 2 yearlings near Bryant Cr. [creek]
cabin working up the valley + 1 [male symbol]
2 [female symbol] + 1 yearling at our Spray Lake.
campsite. Found 2 coyote droppings
almost entirely deer hair on the Spray
river near Bryant Cr. [creek] Suggests a
winter kill or coyote kill nearby.
Healy Cr. [creek] June 18/43 [1943]
An old doe came around the cabin this
morning at 8:00 AM. I watched her for an hour
during which she fed as follows.
Salvia (spec. [species] pres. [present]) 20 min [minutes] pea vine 2 min. [minutes]
Rosa 30 min [minutes] clematis 1 min. [minute]
composite 5 min [minutes] shepherdia leaves. 2 min. [minutes]
