one time + saw a single
red-tailed tropic bird, 2 curlew
+ 2 golden plover - also another
shore bird that reminded me
of an upland plover or a
pectoral. Some rain showers
in the afternoon

A moderate E [east] wind blowing
this morning + brilliant sun.
Pat Kawanui [Kawainui] met us at 10
with a jeep + diving gear.
We drove to the causeway to
Wilkes Island + started out
along the reef. It took a
few minutes to get used to
the snorkel breathing but
after that the morning was
one of the most exciting I can
remember. For two hours
we explored the edge of the
reef surrounded by droves
of fishes Moorish Idols,
Golden yellow fish, dark purple
black fish with 2" [inch] multicolor
(Surgeon fish)
