- Ascaphus truei [underlined] Stejneger [Tailed frog]
Sept. [September] 41. [1941] A male specimen was collected
on September 5/41 on Cascade Creek
(locally called McConnell Creek) at
elevation of 2300 feet, 4 to 5 miles
N.W. [northwest] of Hatzic, B.C. by Mr. Ken
Graham of the Dominion FOrest Insect
Investigation.
In company with Dr. Malcolm Prebble,
in charge, they were walking up
creek bank in the rain + found the
toad sitting on a leaf not
far from the water. It was picked
up but was not recognized as
being unusual except for the presence
of the "tail". The specimen was
wrapped in a handkerchief + carried
in a pocket, then later transferred
to a tin can where it remained
until delivered at the Museum on
Sept [September] 15th in good condition.
Sketches, black and white stills, coloured
stills + coloured movies were made of
the specimen after which it was
placed in a vivarium in the live exhibit.
Dec. [December] 41 [1941] During the period Sept [September] 15 to Dec [December] 20
the toad was not observed to eat; blue-bottles,
house flies, sow bugs, [space left blank] were placed
in the cage from time to time but he appeared
to pay no attention to any. It is possible
