[Drawing of #3 Lake with filled in circles denoting occupied muskrat dens and open circles denoting previously occupied dens]
#3 Lake occupied in June but not now.
There seem to be fewer rats
on these lakes now than at
the end [word crossed out] middle of June.
Food:- Great quantities of food are
found in the burrows, this consists
about equally of Carex aquatilis [underlined]
+ Equisetum limosum [underlined] with a little
grass + a little Potamogeton richardsonii [underlined]
Animals:- We saw 5 animals. 2
we put out of burrows, 3 we
squeaked at + 2 of these answered
I shot the one that did not + it
proved to be a female.
Young:- I do no understand why
we have as yet seen no young.
Aklavik. July 22, 1947.

5 rats one of which had drowned itself
