  • Ondatra [Drawing of #3 Lake with filled in circles denoting occupied muskrat dens and open circles denoting previously occupied dens] #3 Lake occupied in June but not now. There seem to be fewer rats on these lakes now than at the end [word crossed out] middle of June. Food:- Great quantities of food are found in the burrows, this consists about equally of Carex aquatilis [underlined] + Equisetum limosum [underlined] with a little grass + a little Potamogeton richardsonii [underlined] Animals:- We saw 5 animals. 2 we put out of burrows, 3 we squeaked at + 2 of these answered I shot the one that did not + it proved to be a female. Young:- I do no understand why we have as yet seen no young. Aklavik. July 22, 1947. Our traps at #3 Boxer's today held 5 rats one of which had drowned itself though it had easy access to air. The rats taken were 2 [male symbol] + 2 [female symbol] ad [adults] +
