  • Aug [August] 1-3 inc. [inclusive] [1939] Neekis R. [River] Don pen. [Peninsula]. We spent three very profitable days at the mouth of the Neekis R [River] on Don peninsula. Being on the mainland we were successful in getting. Microtus, peromyscus, Zapus, Synaptomys + Sciurus. Neosorex + two Sorex's, Erethizon. The ever present Crossbills were numerous. also seen or heard were wrens, olive back thrush Eagles Ravens, Great Horned owl (carcase) [carcass], Screech owl, + Kingfisher, Flickers + Hairy Woodpeckers. Saw several bats at the river mouth. Aug [August] 4 + 5 [1939] Wigham Cove. Yeo I. [Island] B.C. [British Columbia] Wigham cove proved good anchorage + we had fair Peromyscus trapping here, Also we were able to catch several Synaptomys + Red Backed Voles. In spite of intensive trapping for two nights in a place inhabited by microtus I found no evidence of common Microtus. Several Robins were observed here and crossbills as numerous as ever Aug [August] 6 [1939] Raven Cove Chatfield I. [Island] B.C [British Columbia] Trapped the night of Aug [August] 5 + spent most of Aug [August] 6 at Raven cove on Chatfield I. [Island] B.C. [British Columbia] I found a lake containing large numbers of small white water [word crossed out] waterlilies similar to those found at Spider I. [Island] Saw several bats on the lake on the evening of the 5th but could not shoot any.
