- Canis lupus.
4 wolves passed west + were seen
by a sectionman. One was brown.
Between April 1944 + Apr. [April] 1945 White
has taken 9 wolves of which 1 was
a female. In Sept [September] 1944 he took a
pup wt. [weight] about 70 lbs [pounds] including
12 lbs [pounds] of elk meat. Again in November
he shot a pup. Both were dark gray
on the sides + black on back,
head + tail.
Disease:- In mid winter at Decoigne he
took a mangy wolf + in September
he saw another wolf that had
black patches on it that looked
to be mangy.
Food:- During the winter the wolves killed
2 calf elk + an adult at least near
Decoigne
Scats:- 4 all 100% elk
3 wolves examined this winter all contained
elk meat.
Late last summer a yearling jumped
or fell over a cliff a mile beyond
Decoigne + was killed. Believed to have
been wolf work.
