  • Lepus a. columbiensis cascadensis ["cascadensis" written as post script] Columbian [crossed out] Cascadia Varying Hare. Alta Lake BC [British Columbia] Dec [December] 14/35. [1935] Fresh tracks of hare seen in snow on path on hillside by cabin Master Alan saw droppings when we was working. On the 12th saw "scat" of Coyote on hill above camp. Composed entirely of hair and bones of rabbit, hairs part white part brown. Dec. [December] 18/35 [1935] Fresh tracks on brush above camp on kills of four hares seen along Pemberton trail near Alpha Lake. Columbiensis Texas Cr. [Creek] Lilloeet [Lillooet] B.C. [British Columbia] Nov [November] 2nd to 6th 1937 [illegible word]. Common up to 8000 ft. [feet] in Pine, Spruce + Willows clumps. Six taken by [Ian McTaggart] Cowan + self those taken about 7000 ft [feet] much whiter than the animals taken lower down + in Bear Valley. Moult further advanced at higher altitude. At 5500 ft. [feet] Nov [November] 6/37 [1937] [Ian McTaggart] Cowan saw goshawk fly into bush. I followed + found freshly killed hare + while carrying it back to trail, the goshawk, an immature [male symbol] followed me + I collected it.
