- Bonaparte Gull.
8 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik. June 11/47 [1947]
4 pairs of these gulls appear to be
nesting on the lake S [south] of the cabin
One bird can be seen on her nest
in a spruce tree.
June 13/47 [1947]
Climbed to nest, about 20 ft [feet] up
on S [south] side of spruce, nest about
7" [inches] in diam [diameter] + consisting of about
a cup full of moss + 2 doz [dozen] twigs
+ 2 tufts of dog hair. Bird
stayed on tenaciously during wind
storm. Certainly eggs would have
been thrown out had she left
them.
Aklavik. July 21/1947.
Saw a young gull on cabin
lake at Boxers it still had some
attached down but could fly
a short distance.

Today took the first young gull
we have seen on the wing.
