- Beacon Hill Park. May 19, 1939.
Foods. Foods offered.
Plantago lanceolata
Quercus Garryana
Crataegus brevispina
" oxycantha
Lomatium nudicale [nudicaule]
Viccia americanum
Nuttallia cerasiformis
Zygadenus venosus.
Preference was for the oak,
bird cherry + two hawthorns but
the plantain + vetch were eaten
readily. The buck ate a small
amount of Lomatium but then
turned to eating grass. The does
smelled the Lomatium + ignored
it. None of them touched the
Zygadenus.
The buck was observed feeding
on oak leaves that he could
barely reach by standing on his
hind feet.
Sociability: All three feed together quietly unless
competition for a chosen bit of food
arises. In this the buck dominates,
striking at the others with his [word crossed out] one
front leg.
Breeding. The pregnant doe urinates very frequently
