- Synaptomys b. [borealis]
Monashee Pass B.C. [British Columbia] June 26. 1937 4000'
An ad [adult] [male symbol] taken by [Ian McTaggart] Cowan in grassy
meadow about 1/4 mi [mile] above camp by
river side.
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke B.C. [British Columbia] 6000' July 3/37 With [Ian McTaggart]
Cowan visited the meadows below rock slides
+ then found a considerable sized colony
in a wet + sedge covered place. We set out
about 30 traps in runways + under logs. Signs
of cuttings + droppings fresh.
July 4/37 This am [morning] [Ian McTaggart] Cowan [Ian McTaggart-Cowan] found four [word crossed out] three
Synaptomys caught - all males + adult.
July 10, 11, + 12th, 1937 Eva Lake. Revelstoke Park B.C. [British Columbia]
Large numbers of old nests + signs of Synaptomys
about border of lake + up heather + sedge covered
slopes amongst boulders. Nests also found up to
an alt. [altitude] of nearly 8000 ft [feet]. Examined some
fifteen nests + with one exception these were
all composed of 100% sedges. The exception
being a nest formed about one hundred feet
above camp at side of boulder + it was composed
of White heather 50%, Sedges 30% + moss 20%
Constant trapping in this vicinity only produced
two Synaptomys, July 11th, both females, one of
which contained 4 embryos 50% dev [developed]. It would
appear that the Synaptomys were at their peak
during 1936 judging from the very large numbers
of old unoccupied nests + workings found in all suitable
places over Revelstoke Mtn [Mountain] + about Eva Lake.
