- Journal.
Windy Cabin. July 4/43. [1943]
Hiked about 3 miles up Snow Creek
+ looked over the hills on both sides
then climbed Bare Mt [Mountain] to the ridge +
searched the next valley east. Hiked
down the ridge to bluff overlooking
the cabin then dropped down the
side + worked all round the Mt [Mountain]
on edge of timber looking for kills.
Census. We saw 14 goat at head of next
valley east of Bare Mt [Mountain]. 4 sheep on
Bluff 12 sheep at cabin, 2 mule
deer in timber below bluff.
Range:- S [South] + W. [West] slopes of Bare Mt [Mountain] with
a circlet of timber basally but
the greater part of the hill open
grassland. E [East] faces with shale
slopes + cliffs + a little grass. Collected
samples of the grasses.
Sulphur Springs, Panther R. [River] July 5/43.
Saddled + packed by 9:30 + headed 7 miles
down the river to the Sulphur Springs
Camped there + searched the gullys
between there + the next mountain
south on the N [North] side for winter
killed sheep. Hiked about 12 to 15 miles.
Game seen:- 1 coyote
2 grizzly
3 mule deer.
2 sheep.
