McConnell Cr. [Creek]
En route ran into a bunch of
ewes + lambs on the riverbank
in a canyon girt area. Saw
a coyote catch a lamb + then we
shot the coyote.
Game seen:- 18 goat
2 deer
24 sheep.
1 coyote
Before leaving camp I climbed into a
beautiful basin 10 min [minute] walk up
camp creek. This basin would
make an ideal campsite. Grass
wood, poles + water in abundance
Well sheltered. To reach it keep
right on up the ridge we were
one [on] before we turned eastward
to our campsite.
Baker Lake. Aug. [August] 21/45 [1945].
Left camp at 10:30 + camped here at
3 o'clock. Lyalls Larch quite common on
the head of the Red Deer + on the pass
south to Ptarmigan valley.
