- Wilson Snipe.
Nov. [November] 9. 1935. Terra Nova Lulu Is. [Island] B.C. About 30 or
35 seen during afternoon + evening. In mid afternoon
tide was running out + the birds kept coming on to flats
from the fields behind the dyke. These snipe were
shot one of which was lost in long grass. The other two
proved to be females, #400 an ad. [adult] [female symbol] + the other now No [number]
[space left blank] in the Provincial Museum is a juv [juvenile] [female symbol].-
Nov. [November] 16/35 [1935] Three snipe collected on Terra Nova
2/[male symbol] + 1/[female symbol] About 25 birds seen
Nov. [November] 22/35. [1935] About 45 birds seen today. Shot
2 only + Luscher shot 10
Nov [November] 23/35 [1935] With Stewart at Terra Nova saw
many snipe together we shot five
Nov. [November] 2. 1938 Terra Nova Lulu Isd. [Island] B.C. [British Columbia]
Fine, sunshine, west wind. Birds fairly numerous
in marsh. Saw about 30/35. Took five.
Nov. [November] 5. 1938. Lulu Isd. [Island] B.C. [British Columbia] with Stewart -
Racey. Stewart shot 4 + 2 teal + I [Kenneth Racey] shot five
+ a Pectoral Sandpiper which last I gave
to Dr. MY William
Dec. [December] 7/38. [1938] Snipe have now all
left the marshes for the South.
On Dec [December] 3rd with Stewart + John Steven[?]
covered the foreshore + fields
Only saw nine Snipe + all very
wild, flushing at a great distance +
making off southwards. Would head
about in the air + settled again. Since
October shot in all about 25
snipe + of these Stewart shot several.
Practically all the snipe left for the
south during the week Nov. [November] 26th to
Dec. [December] 3rd - Today Dec. [December] 7th only
one bird was seen in the field + it
may have been a wounded bird
