- [Webster H.] Ransom reports that on July 20 the
lakes near Clinton (s [south]) held broods
as follows.

Redhead 3 + 11
Goldeneye 6 7, 6, 7, 3, 8, 3, 6, 11, 12
Shovellor 5
Ruddy 9 8
G.w. [Green-wing] teal 10
Lesser Scaup. 9, 7 8
Chimney Lake. Aug [August] 5/48 [1948].
Rain fell heavily all night + for the
first part of the morning. At noon
the sun came out + it became merely
cloudy. We took our remaining net
+ set a trap at the first pond on
the road E [East] of Chimney Lake. Almost 40
young ducks are on the lake but
we took only 17 because of difficulty
due to lack of a second boat.
Counted 22 ad [adult] mallard 5 greenwing, 1
bluewing teal + the following broods
2nd [second] time. Baldpate + 5
Scaup + 8 Goldeneyes + 25 +/-
Bufflehead + 3
Ruddy + 8
Horned + eared grebe with yng [young].
No coots.
