- [Bertil] Haglund + his asst [assistant] editor + right hand man A.E. Malm, who seemed young + enthusiastic. The situation in Sweden as regards game administration + research seems to be this. Area of Sweden about 400 [number crossed out] 173 000 sq [square] miles In the southern 2/3 of Sweden almost all the land is privately owned either for forestry purposes or for Agriculture. In the northern part there are some National Forests. There are 25 provinces in Sweden + in each of these there is a sportsman's organization that includes the forestry + farming interests also. Each of these organizations nominates 2 members +/- to a central council + about 30 members represent these groups. Another 4 are appointed 3 from members of parliament upon recommendation of the Jagarforbundet; 1 from the Nature Conservation Organization. The Director of the entire organization is a senior Civil Servant. + he appoints his staff, the members of which are not civil servants. There are some 200,000 licensed hunters in Sweden that pay a license of 8 Kr [Krone] per head. About 80% of this is given over by the govt [government], to running the Game organization.
