1930
April 29 [1930] - Arrived at Newgate B.C. [British Columbia]
+ made camp.
April 30 [1930] Rained all day [word crossed out] morning. Shot 2
Red squirrels. Set out some traps.
May 1 [1930]. Scouted on Tobacco
Plains, east of Kootenay River.
Chipmunks + columbia groundsquirrels
very common, but wild. Immense
amount of old pocket gopher
work, but noted only 3 or 4
fresh diggings. Took a shrew
+ 2 long-tailed Voles in traps
set by [space left blank] creek. Voles not
nearly as common as they had
been in previous summer.
A lot of badger work on hills
but all old. Pocket gophers
more numerous on West of river
than on East. Noted 6 or 7 fresh
workings amongst all the old
ones. Took 2 pocket gophers.
May 2 [1930]. Warm + sunny most of the
day, slight rain towards
evening. Took a vole + a
Peromyscus on [space left blank] creek + 2
Pocket Gophers on flat land above
the school.
May 3 [1930]. Heavy rain at night - rain
most of the day. Took 2
Pocket Gophers on West of Kootenay.
