Lac La Hache. July 24/48 [1948].
Fine day. Returned to 105 mile,
completed the trap + drove the lake
with great success. Results are shown
in the banding record.
Broods seen.
Canvasback + 14, 5, all class 2
Barrows Goldeneye 4, 4, 3, 13 all class 2
Bufflehead, 4, 5. all class 2
Redhead, 5 (1), 7 (2)
Ruddy 7 (1)
Scaup. 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13. all but 1 class 1
Today 6 horned grebes in first
drive, saw about 12 prs [pairs] of Holboell
grebes with large young and
2 Pied-billed grebes.
A juv [juvenile] [female symbol] Falco columbarius [underlined] was taken.

Sunday + we took the day off.
Drove down to Watson Lake
to the abandoned mansion in search
of bats. Found that the colony
was deserted except for a single
individual. The big colonies apparently
break up as soon as the young
can fly.
Shot a virginia rail ad [adult] [male symbol] +
a juv [juvenile] red tailed hawk.
