  • Felis concolor [Mountain lion/cougar] Siffleur R. [river] July 15/43 [1943] Warden Charles Phillips tells of seeing two at play up the [word crossed out] Scalp Creek in the autumn 7 years ago. The same fall he came upon one in position for a spring onto a goat. The goat was very nervous but was trapped. The lion ran off when disturbed. Last summer at the ranch Mrs [Nellie] Murphy almost stepped on one as it lay beside a deer trail near Scalp Creek. The noise of the water prevented it hearing her approach. Banff. July 25/43 [1943] Warden Fuller tells me he has seen tracks on the Panther last summer. Shale Banks. Aug. [August] 14/43 [1943] [Warden Frank] Burstrom thinks there were 4 cougar up this valley between Devona + Rock Creek. He found one sheep killed by cougar last winter at Devona.
