June 6. Abuntlet island nest of 6 [number crossed out] 9 eggs.
June 10 Alkali flats: in thick, wet sedge meadow came
on [female symbol] with a brood. Impossible to get count
- found a predated nest, containing at least 5
broken eggs. Eggs crushed - not crow. [female symbol] lay, dead,
10' from nest, badly ripped base of left wing, -
dead about 2 days - not eaten. No clue as to
predator species (re [regarding]: coyote see General [underlined])
June 12 Alkali flats.
nest (#8) - dry site in grass hummock - exposed 8 eggs
June 17 nest (#8) ok + covered at 16.40 hrs [hours]
June 22 new nest (#16) in willow clump in wet meadow - 6 eggs
-found, nearby, a weathered nest with 6 crow-eaten
eggs in it. May have been flooded out. In cases where
find old predate nest, question if flooding out or Crows
were prime factor must be considered.
nest (#8) - OK [okay] + covered
-flushed a [female symbol] from the flats marsh that had a brood
June 24 Abuntlet Islands - nest 9 eggs
-Dean River - Abuntlet to Anahim - saw at least
4 anxious [female symbol]'s that flew about + followed the canoe.
June 27. nest (#8) - 8 eggs.
(#16) - 6 eggs.
July 2. nest (#8) - 8 eggs at noon. At 17.00 hrs [hours] eggs
were found hatching in covered nest. One collected
nest (#16) - 3 eggs (Later found Christianson
girl put the other 3 under a hen)
July 5. All river near P.O. [Post Office] Going upstream, brood of 3+
large young seen.
Going downstream, 3 Anxious
