He was heavily influenced by Lautrec, van Gogh and Gauguin. Iris Season, 1963, 48.5 x 33 cm, aggv 24 Mabuchi Toru, 1920- , (medium: woodblock), makes his prints by pasting fragments of wood on a flat surface until a mosaic effect has been created. Despite his use of international styles, he is very concerned with maintaining a Japanese identity in his prints. Ships at Rest, 1952, 63.5 x 83 cm, aggv 27 Sekine Yoshio, 1922- , (medium: silkscreen), is very fond of making prints of the abacus, which has been the everyday calculator in the Far East for more than a millennium.
