- Reindeer Station July 10, 1947. Delayed by high winds + rain all day. In AM [morning] I visited my lemming traps on the barrens trap lake On barrens 11 traps - 1 Clethrionomys Around Station 7 " - 7 " 4 Microtus Saw 40 Golden plover in a flock + 12 jaegers either long-tailed or parasitic. I think the latter. Visited beaver colony in evening " " July 11, 1947. Northerly gale still blowing, sky overcast + heavy clouds but no rain. In AM walked about 7 miles over the barrens seeing little of note. In PM. crossed the river + did some work the lakes. Shot 3 of 5 rats seen. Saw the first young ducks. July 12, 1947 " At last the wind has abated + the sun shines brightly. The [Lee] Posts left for Aklavik + in the evening 5 boats bound for Tuk [Tuktoyaktuk] came down river. In the morning I went up onto the barrens + set out 22 traps in what appeared to be a lemming colony. There was almost no bird life on the barrens except curlew which now behave very much as if their young are out In the evening we went across river + set out some muskrat
