- Marbled Murrelet
Brachyramphus marmoratus (Gmelin) 23
First eggs May 12. Max [maximum] end of May.
Examined a marbled murrelets egg taken
by John Darcus [?] on May [space left blank] 1936 on conglomerate
pillar - Cox Island - He was climbing face of
cliff + on reaching up to take hold of tuft of grass
+ rock flushed a marbled murrelet which
had been incubating an egg about 12" [inches] in hole
behind grass tuft + rock. This egg was warm.
About 12" [inches] further back on another egg of smaller
shape but cold. The flushed bird flew down
to the water + was clearly identified. This egg
is more pointed at one end + larger at other
end than are the eggs of the Ancient Murrelet.
Point Roberts Wa [Washington] (Boundary Bay BC [British Columbia]) June
6th 1937. Counted forty five of these birds
off along + shore. All were feeding in pairs
+ all were in breeding plumage.
