Sandspit Sept. [September] 1/46 [1946].
Cycled down to the marsh after an early
breakfast + took from the traps an ad [adult] [female symbol]
saw-whet owl. Shot an ad. [adult] [male symbol] red-tailed Hawk
a [male symbol] QCI. [Queen Charlotte Islands] Woodpecker + between us 7 wrens
Skinned all afternoon + backed in the
evening.
Sandspit. Sept [September] 2/46 [1946].
Breakfasted early + then cycled down to
the marsh + lifted our traps. The
last trap set by Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet] held a beautiful
ad [adult] [female symbol] owl. Saw the bear again also
a juv [juvenile] [female symbol] red-tail, 2 woodpeckers, 5 sapsuckers
1 falcon, 2 wrens, + 1 robin + 5
mallard.
Caught the Cassiar at 1 o'clock.
Hecate Strait Sept [September] 3/46 [1946].
9 miles off Hecate [word crossed out] Reef Island
saw a beautiful pink-footed Shearwater
at very close range, close to the
same place saw a pale gray
shearwater with black primaries
+ some black on the head + white
underwings another of the same kind
seen just 5 or 6 miles off Aristazable [Aristazabal].
Saw some 30 sooty shearwaters +
1 slender billed, 4 fork-tailed
petrels, 2 rhinos [rhinoceros auklets], 4 murres +
3 pigeon guillemots, 3 Herring gull
1 Thayer's gull (taken) + many glaucous
wing. 3 hump back whales + 10 or 12 Sea Lions
