  • 2 savannah sparrows, several song sparrows, 2 sapsuckers, 50 +/- crows 2 spotted sandpipers, some wrens chickadees + kinglets were all the birds seen. Found a freshly dead saw-whet owl + heard 3 others. Shot 1 Miller [?] bat + Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet] shot 3 of the same species. Sandspit. Aug. [August] 26/46 [1946]. Spent nearly all day skinning, worked the spit at noon + at 8 P.M. with very little seen, apart from peeps 4 sanderling, 4 Black + 8 ruddy turnstones were all the shore birds noted. Many herring gulls. Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet] shot a yng [young] guillemot + saw a yng [young] murrelet. In evening shot a Calif. [California] little brown bat. " Aug. [August] 27/46 [1946] Skinned + worked the spit in the morning, in afternoon worked forest edge for an hour then took Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet] down to Copper Bay for a try at those owls. On way back found a good marsh 3 1/2 miles S [South] of Air strip (5 miles by road) + returned to it in the evening. Set 6 museum traps. Heard owl + saw rat, mouse + muskrat sign. Saw 2 deer. Wader migration very slow, saw 60 +/- westerns, a few least, 3 Sanderling + 15 Ruddy Turnstone
